September Week One Overview

Hi, I've finally finished my essay. This essay is going to help me to decide how to take my photos. I have decided that the photos are going to capture the most important parts in the history of photography. The points that I have chosen to capture are:
  • Camera Obscura-The first idea of photography.
  •   Daguerreotype-The first permanent photograph taken.
  •  Wet Collodion Process-Made photography more widely available.
  •   Colour Separation Process-The first coloured photograph taken.
  •  Dry Plate Process-Simplified the process of taking photographs.
  •   First Kodak Camera-Further simplified the ‘photograph-taking’ process, creating a sharp image and making it available to a wide range of the public.
  • First Smart Camera-An electronic camera that led to a wide range of new possibilities.
  •  First SLR Camera-The latest development, making photography what it is today.

Summer Holiday Overview

Hi, I haven't updated in a while as I have been very busy, however I have been working very hard on my EPQ project. Previously in my EPQ project I had been doing some research on the history of photography, looking at how it has developed through different ideas from a vast range of people. But as my project deadline is getting nearer, I have decided to do an 'essay' in which I will pick the most important points in the history. I will go into detail of those points.

I have decided to do this because it will help me to understand the history more and therefore help me to come up with ideas to achieve the aim of my project-which is to take a series of photos that capture the history of photography.

I have finished around half of my essay and will hopefully finish the rest before the end of the holiday. This will give me about a month and a half to plan my photos and take them.

Although, I have not finished my essay, I have given some thought as to what the photos could highlight. There are two different ways I could go with the photos. I could either take one picture for each point in the history, e.g. Camera Obscura, Daguerreotype, or I could sum up what the history was like in my point of view and do a range of photos showing that. I have not yet decided which way I will go but I will post when I do, along with some of my ideas for the photos.

Please leave any comments. Will update soon.

Past Month Overview

Hi, sorry I didn't update earlier, I have been very busy with schoolwork. However, I still did research on the History of Photography.

I wanted to give an overview of what I've completed this month. As you know, I've been researching both the history of photography and photography techniques so I can eventually capture a photo that shows the history of photography, however I've completed my research on photography techniques. Here is what I have done this week.

I have continued my research on the History of Photography, learning about the Dry Plate Process (1878), the first Kodak Camera (1888), the Kodak 'Brownie' Camera (1900) and Autochrome plates (1906).

Whilst doing my research, I came up with the idea of writing up an essay for each significant point in the history of photography where I could talk about things such as how important it was and the impacts on the community. I will only use some of the points in the history of photography as some are less important than others. Writing these essays will help me to come up with ideas for a photo to represent each development in photography.

I am looking forward to try out more of the photography techniques that I have researched. I will post some pictures that I have taken, using the techniques I have researched, on a page on this blog which will be called 'Photo Gallery'. Also, I have created two new pages on my blog. One will be called, 'Deeper meaning of photography', the other will be called 'Famous Quotes'. Please have a look at them.

Please leave any comments. Will update on my progress soon.

Week Seven & Eight Overview

Hi, sorry I didn't update earlier, I was on holiday in Wales. However, whilst I was there I took loads of photos. I did this because the aim of my project is to produce a series of photographs that capture the history of photography, and I wanted to practice with the camera to get used to it.

I wanted to give an overview of what I've completed this week. As you know, I've been researching both the history of photography and photography techniques so I can eventually capture a photo that shows the history of photography, however I've completed my research on photography techniques. Here is what I have done this week.

Instead of researching the history of photography this week, I have taken photos-mostly of scenery and plants, so that I get used to using a professional camera. I have learnt how to focus properly on the camera and when to use the flash on the camera.

Week Six Overview

Hi, this week I've been really busy working on my EPQ Project. I wanted to give an overview of what I've completed this week. As you know, I've been researching both the history of photography and photography techniques so I can eventually capture a photo that shows the history of photography, however I've completed my research on photography techniques. Here is what I have done this week.

Instead of researching the history of photography this week, I have researched 'What does photography mean to you?'. I decided to this because I think it will give me a greater insight into how passionate photographers see photography and how it makes them feel. I wanted to know what makes them passionate about it and how amateurs see it as a simple hobby. I feel this could help a great deal when it comes to taking my own photos.

I would also like to say that after speaking with the person running the EPQ program at our school, I am more likely to take a variety of photographs rather then a single photograph. I am thinking about this as she told me it would be more achievable and I value her input.

I am looking forward to try out the photography techniques that I have researched. In a couple of weeks, I will post some pictures that I have taken, using the techniques I have researched, on a page on this blog which will be called 'Photo Technique Gallery'. Also, I am creating two new pages on my blog. One will be called, 'Deeper meaning of photography', the other will be called 'Famous Quotes'.

Week Five Overview

Hi, this week I've been really busy working on my EPQ Project. I wanted to give an overview of what I've completed this week. As you know, I've been researching both the history of photography and photography techniques so I can eventually capture a photo that shows the history of photography, however I've completed my research on photography techniques. Here is what I have done this week.

Whilst researching the history of photography I have found out that photography continued on with stereoscopy, a process that influenced the outbreak of 3D photography in the 20th and 21st century. Also I have learnt about the colour separation method, invented by James Clerk-Maxwell, which was the forerunner of today's modern colour photography. Furthermore, I have briefly read about Matthew Brady covering the American Civil War with 7000 negatives and Ducas de Hauron publishing a book proposing a variety of methods for colour photography.

I would also like to say that after speaking with the person running the EPQ programme at  our school, I am more likely to take a variety of photographs rather then a single photograph. I am thinking about this as she told me it would be more achievable.

I am looking forward to try out the photography techniques that I have researched. In a couple of weeks, I will post some pictures that I have taken, using the techniques I have researched, on a page on this blog which will be called 'Photo Technique Gallery'.

Week Four Overview

Unfortunately, this week I have been very busy with school and with a badminton tournament, so I have not been able to do my research on the history of photography.

However, I do know roughly what I am going to research about and instead of researching two major points in the history of photography next week, I am going to research four in order to make up for the fact that I haven't done any research this week.

Please leave any comments. Will update on my progress soon.
